Travis Hunter received a big update on his role with the Jacksonville Jaguars for when he returns from a season-ending knee injury. The wide receiver/cornerback saw his rookie season cut short after the non-contact injury.
Many fans criticized the Jaguars for using the former Colorado Buffaloes star both on offense and defense, claiming that the overuse had something to do with Hunter’s injury.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared on Sunday, ahead of the Jaguars’ clash with the Los Angeles Chargers, that Jacksonville won’t change anything regarding Hunter. They will continue to use him as a two-way player.
“The Jacksonville Jaguars lost their transcendent two-way player for the remainder of the season after Travis Hunter underwent knee surgery. That end, however, was just the beginning of questions regarding what’s next for the two-way player,” Rapoport wrote.
More than that, the JAGS had planned to give a heavier load to Hunter instead of diminishing his role.

“Sources say Jacksonville does, in fact, plan to continue to deploy Hunter as their top wide receiver and matchup cornerback moving forward. In fact, prior to Hunter’s non-contact injury during practice on Oct. 30, he was ramping up to be used more, not less.”
Hunter’s first NFL season saw him participate in seven games. On offense, he was targeted 45 times, catching 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he racked up 15 tackles and three passes defended.

The Jaguars have posed the biggest threat to the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) in the AFC South with a 5-4 record. Hunter’s absence could ruin their plans to win more games, but they have shown high potential in 2025.
Hunter would be gone for six months before he returns to football activities. He showed flashes of his brilliance, but he needs more if he wants to be a difference-maker on both ends of the field.
