He confirmed that his agent is in discussions with the Merseyside club and hope that an agreement can be reached soon.
The centre-back said (via Sky Sports News): “I’ve seen a lot of things, particularly in the media. I saw that Liverpool made me a new offer recently.
“I don’t know where that information comes from, but now my agents are still discussing with Liverpool. I hope my decision will be made and I’ll be able to announce what I’ll do very soon.”
Time is running out for Liverpool
Konate’s comments suggests a decision could be made very soon ahead of the January transfer window, which is when the 26-year-old will be allowed to sign a pre-agreement with a European club.
Real Madrid’s interest in Konate has been well documented, and the Spanish giants will be keeping a keen eye on the situation.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will also be looking to avoid losing another star player on a free transfer, after seeing Trent Alexander-Arnold run down his contract to join Madrid in the summer.
Liverpool’s options if Konate rejects a new deal
Liverpool face several potential paths regarding Konate:
Cash in January: If no agreement is reached, the club could sell Konate in the January transfer window to avoid losing him for free.
Hold until summer: Alternatively, they could allow him to leave on a free in the summer while aiming to secure their long-term target Marc Guehi.
Push for renewal: Liverpool are likely working hard to finalize a new deal with Konate to secure their defensive future.
Whichever path they choose, it is clear Liverpool must act quickly to prevent losing another key defender and maintain stability at the back.
