GLENDALE — Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado exited the second quarter of his team’s game against the San Francisco 49ers with an ankle injury.
He is officially questionable to return.
Demercado attempted to return to the game but after testing out the ankle on the sideline, headed back to the locker room with a trainer.
The running back exited the tilt with eight yards on five carries. He added a pair of receptions for 12 yards.
With Demercado’s status up in the air, look for Michael Carter to step up as Arizona’s third-down back thanks to his pass protection.
Carter has one catch for one yard so far this afternoon.
Bam Knight should continue to see the bulk of the work. He’s up to 20 yards on four carries to go along with one catch for four yards.
Before Demercado’s injury, the Cardinals were already down bad on the injury front with a handful of starters sidelined for Sunday’s game.
