In the post, a GMFRS spokesperson said: "Great partnership working on display to rescue a young man who fell into a shallow river on Charles Street in the city centre at 2am.
"Firefighters were able to bring the man to safety with only minor injuries using the turntable ladder before handing them to the care of @NWAmbulance.
"A thank you to @gmpolice and local security staff for helping us out in a very busy area too!"
It comes just days after fire crews were targeted by fireworks thrown by youths at the scene of a fire on a third-floor balcony at Knowsley Heights on Primrose Drive.
A female police officer was hit and suffered a minor injury to her leg during the incident. Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton branded the behaviour as "disgraceful" and said "It is only by sheer good fortune that nobody was seriously injured."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "MFRS crews are currently in attendance at a fire on Primrose Drive, Huyton. While tackling the blaze, our firefighters were targeted and attacked with fireworks.
"A person at the scene suffered an injury from a firework and is being treated by NWAS. Thankfully, none of our crews were injured.
"These attacks are unacceptable. Our firefighters are out to protect our communities - not to be attacked. All fire engines are equipped with CCTV, and footage will be shared with Merseyside Police to support their investigation."
