Jakobi Meyers keeps cementing his Jaguars future with head-turning performance

Heading into Week 11, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a major problem with their wide receivers. Thankfully, it appears they fixed it just in time with a bombshell trade that's already paying off. Just a couple weeks ago, the Jags gave the Las Vegas Raiders a pair of draft picks in exchange for Jakobi Meyers, who is already turning into a major playmaker for Jacksonville.

Meyers reportedly requested a trade after the Raiders refused him a contract extension, and while multiple teams were apparently interested, Meyers chose to come to Jacksonville. It was an exciting prospect right away, and he's proving that it was a good move.

In the Jags' dominating Week 11 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, Meyers had a decent game, leading both teams in receiving yards with five receptions on six targets for 64 yards. This is despite him only having been on the roster for a few days, so fans can only imagine how good he'll be in another week.

Jakobi Meyers’ instant impact has Jaguars thinking beyond just this season

It's only been two games, but already, Meyers appears to be building good chemistry with Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. "At the end of the day, I gotta make Trevor's job easy," he said in a postgame interview. "And that's all I'm really trying to do. I gotta make sure I'm in the right spot for him, and I trust him to keep me safe."

Judging by his performance against the Chargers, there won't be any problem with Lawrence and Meyers working well together. Head coach Liam Coen also had some praise for his new receiver, noting that he's already working hard to be the best he can be for his new team.

"[He's] just a quality quality person, and he's worked his tail off to learn the plan," Coen said. "I mean, he's not out there busting assignments and making poor decisions. I don't know what he had statistically today, but I know he made some critical catches over the middle and some big first downs on third down for us, really pleased to have him."

Meyers is a huge addition for Lawrence and the Jaguars, who have been struggling with one of the highest drop rates in the league. Meyers has the lowest, which can only help the offense continue to thrive through the rest of the season.

But what about post-2025? Jacksonville bought out the remainder of Jakobi Meyers' contract with Las Vegas, which means he's set to be a free agent when this season ends. But it's already clear that letting Meyers walk would be a mistake; he's a major asset the Jaguars need to hold on to as they continue to build the future of this franchise.
