3 winners (and 2 losers) from Eagles' defensive slugfest victory over Lions

While the Philadelphia Eagles' offense struggled mightily against the Detroit Lions, they managed to pull out a 16-9 win over the team from the Motor City.

The defense of the Eagles was the star of the game, stopping the Lions on five fourth-down attempts. Philly's only good players on offense were Saquon Barkley (83 yards rushing) and A.J. Brown (seven receptions for 49 yards).

Not many Eagles fans are going to feel good about the struggling offense, but at 8-2, the defense certainly showed up in a big way with multiple stars from the game.

Winner: Jaelan Phillips, EDGE

Last year, the best addition was Saquon Barkley, but this year, Jaelan Phillips might be having just as big an impact on this Eagles team. Phillips finished with five tackles, two quarterback hits, one tackle for loss, and one sack. He has been a disruptor on this defense in just two games and is only getting better.

Loser: Jalen Hurts, QB

Eagles fans love Jalen Hurts, but he did not play well against the Lions. He completed only 50% of his passes for 135 yards, but added 32 yards rushing and one touchdown. Hurts was clearly forcing the ball to A.J. Brown, and it wasn't working half the time, so this offense still has a ton to work on.

Winner: Jordan Davis, DT

This season has been a dream year for Davis as he continues to make a strong case to earn his first Pro Bowl selection. He finished with just one tackle, but he got three pass deflections on the line. Davis has been spectacular all season, excelling at rushing the quarterback and stopping the run.

Loser: DeVonta Smith, WR

Poor DeVonta Smith. He became a victim of the overcompensating Brown in the passing game. Smith finished with one catch for eight yards on five targets. Something is going to have to change in this offense because Smith has been the best receiver on the team and needs the ball more.

Winner: Jalen Carter, DT

Eagles fans are starting to see the Carter they have been accustomed to seeing over the last two years. He finished with five tackles and two pass deflections. His slow start to the season is now behind him, and he is healthy and dominating in the last few games.
