The Philadelphia Eagles' defense shut down the Detroit Lions' high-powered offense in a 16-9 win on Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field.
After a dominant showing last week vs. the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles' defense stopped the Lions five times on fourth down, forcing Detroit to turn the ball over on downs. They only allowed Detroit to score one touchdown.
Trade deadline acquisition Jaelan Phillips had another big game in his first home game as an Eagle. He had one sack, five total tackles and two quarterback hits.
On Detroit's first possession, defensive tackle Jordan Davis deflected a Jared Goff pass, which led to cornerback Cooper DeJean intercepting it. DeJean set the Eagles up deep in Detroit territory, but they were unable to score a touchdown. Jake Elliott booted in the first of his three field goals of the game to get the Birds on the board.
The Eagles scored their only touchdown at the end of the second quarter on a Jalen Hurts tush push.
Wide receiver A.J. Brown, who voiced his frustration about the offense leading up to the game, had seven catches for 49 yards on 11 targets.
Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson left the game with a foot injury in the first quarter.
The Eagles improved to 8-2 with the win and remain the top seed on the NFC. They'll face the Dallas Cowboys on the road next week.
