Tua and the Dolphins beat the Mariota-led Commanders in Madrid

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tua Tagovailoa and Marcus Mariota played against each other for the first time, and it would take going to Madrid, Spain, to make it happen

It’s believed to be the [first time two Hawaii High school quarterbacks from the same school faced off](https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/11/15/hawaii-nfl-quarterbacks-same-high-school-face-off-first-time/), and Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins won in overtime against the Mariota-led Washington Commanders, 16-13.

Mariota was 20 of 30 passing for 213 yards, one touchdown, and an interception.

Tagovailoa racked up 171 yards through the air, but the ‘Fins scoring came from the ground and special teams, which included place kicker Riley Paterson’s game-winner in OT.

Tagovailoa caught up with his fellow Saint Louis alum after the game.

“I got a chance to speak to him after the game,” he said. “I think it was more after I told him, ‘great job, great seeing him,’ more of things he wanted to share with me that I really appreciated, that I won’t share here, but it was more things that he shared with me that I took and I really appreciated.”

Next week, Miami will host the New Orleans Saints, while Washington hosts the Denver Broncos.
