‘That’s terrible’: NBC’s Collinsworth hated the late pi flag on the Lions

The Detroit Lions defense had been the highlight all night against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday as they kept the key matchup close despite Detroit’s offensive struggles.

But the game would be decided because of a defensive pass interference call against cornerback Rock Ya-Sin on third down in the final two minutes that would’ve potentially given the Lions one more shot to tie what would finish as a 16-9 loss.

As soon as the controversial call was made, NBC color commentator Cris Collinsworth was vocal about his displeasure with the game-deciding flag from the referees.

“Oh, come on. That’s terrible,” Collinsworth said. “That is an absolutely terrible call that’s going to decide this football game.”

Collinsworth went on to say that, if anything, it should’ve been a penalty on wide receiver A.J. Brown, who gives Ya-Sin a little push off to try and chase down a pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Lions certainly didn’t do themselves any favors, trailing for the majority of the matchup after an underwhelming offensive performance. But the defense had been excellent throughout the night, despite being put in numerous tough positions.

It looked like defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard’s group was going to give the Lions one more to get back in the game. The call negated that opportunity as the Eagles got a fresh set of downs and ended the game soon after without the Lions touching the ball again.
