Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has opened up on his relationship with Jack Grealish.
The two summer signings have adjusted well to life at Everton and the pair, who knew each other before becoming Blues teammates, are starting to develop a strong relationship on the pitch.
For Dewsbury-Hall, there is still room for their connection to strengthen and its potential excites him. He said: “It's good that we managed to get a little connection early and it's still early days so we're still trying to get it better and better to a point where it's just free and off the cuff, but it's still early so we've got plenty of time to get to that point.”
Both players have already opened their goalscoring accounts since becoming part of David Moyes’ effort to overhaul the Everton squad - Grealish setting up Dewsbury-Hall for his goal at Wolverhampton Wanderers. The playmakers have shown glimpses of their quality and earned the trust of their manager, who clearly has them in his preferred first XI.
While Grealish has captured plenty of attention since his loan move from Manchester City, winning the Premier League’s player of the month accolade for August, Dewsbury-Hall’s start to life in Royal Blue has gone “under-the-radar” according to Moyes.
He has shown flashes of brilliance and was impressive in the first half an hour before Everton lost momentum in the draw at Sunderland. Days later against Fulham, in the final game before the November international break, the 27-year-old produced his best display so far in the 2-0 win over Fulham. He had a goal disallowed and created Michael Keane’s late second as Everton returned to winning ways at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
His start to life at Finch Farm has been helped by the bond he shares with Grealish. Dewsbury-Hall told Everton’s media team: “He is a great lad. I have known Jack for a number of years, through mutual friends and stuff. He's obviously a fantastic player. Everyone can see that. But he's actually a really, really nice lad. He is such a humble, down to earth lad. I don't know whether he is portrayed like that in the media, but when you get to know him he gives everybody the time of day, so that to me shows how you are as a person.”
Grealish sought the advice of Dewsbury-Hall before agreeing to his move to Everton. The former Chelsea man, who had joined days earlier, proved to be convincing as he detailed the positive welcome he had received.
Asked whether the attention Grealish is subjected to has made it easier for him to settle in, he said: “Jack's almost like a celebrity, he's not just a football player - he's a very famous person. I don't mind it at all. As long as I'm playing well and he's playing well and we're both happy, I don't mind who gets the limelight. He likes it, so I'll let him continue to take it as much as he wants.”
