A Liverpool and Bayern Munich swap deal could solve two high-profile Reds problems

Arne Slot will have his work cut out over this international break, working out where to go next after his side were dismantled by Manchester City last time out in the Premier League.

A humiliating 3-0 defeat at the Etihad left the Reds down in eighth position in the top flight and was only the second time Liverpool have conceded three or more goals to City in the league since 2020/21. Usually such a tight encounter, on this occasion that could not have been further from the truth.

While there is certainly still time to turn things around at Anfield, it may take wholesale changes in the coming weeks and months as Slot finds a formula capable of challenging City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

His big-money summer signings have not worked out thus far, and it may take sacrificing one such buy in January to secure a signing who could prove a game-changer for the Reds for years to come.

Florian Wirtz and Michael Olise swap deal could turn things around for Liverpool

Florian Wirtz continues to struggle for Liverpool following his £116million move in the summer, having still failed to register a single goal or assist in the Premier League. The fact he has proven more effective in the Champions League reflects that he still has undeniable talent, but his issues with adapting to the pace and physicality of the Premier League have been at a great detriment to the Reds.

Liverpool have been linked with Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise in recent months and should do all they can to secure the signature of one of the most promising wide players in world football, even if that means putting an end to their Wirtz experiment early in a stunning swap deal.

Recent rumours have seen Wirtz linked with Real Madrid, but he was previously a top target for Bayern and there is no doubt that they would love to have him at the Allianz. The 22-year-old German is already looking like one of Liverpool’s worst signings since Naby Keita and if there is a far more suitable alternative available on the market for a straight swap deal, it could be a smart move.

Olise swap deal could secure Liverpool their dream Salah successor

One of the major tasks waiting for Slot in the coming months is scouting and ultimately signing a dream successor for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. While the Egyptian is not done yet, if the right market opportunity comes along then the Reds must strike while the iron is hot.

Olise not only has experience in the Premier League with Crystal Palace, he is still only 23 years-old and has transformed his game to a whole new level since arriving at Bayern. His 20 goals in all competitions last term doubled his previous best, while he hit 10 Premier League goals in just 19 appearances in his final season with the Eagles. Olise is a ready-made Salah replacement on the right wing, and might even be better than the Liverpool legend at present.

While for Wirtz, a swap deal involving Olise would put an end to what could potentially become a very costly transfer mistake by the Reds. It cannot be overstated how much money £116m is to throw around, potentially when clubs such as Barcelona and Manchester United have seen financial crisis behind the scenes due to financial mismanagement in recent years.

There is every chance Wirtz could still come good for Liverpool. But if he has not by the time a deal involving Olise becomes possible, the German might have to wave an early goodbye to Merseyside and return to the Bundesliga, where his star shone so brightly before. Wirtz is still very highly rated in his homeland, and would be welcomed back with open arms.
