It’s been a busy few days on the Newcastle United transfer rumour front, so we’ve rounded up all the best stories from the weekend in one place.

The international break is a perfect time to turn attention towards the January transfer window and really think about what Newcastle United need moving forward.

We believe there are plenty of issues Newcastle need to address in the next window, including players that should leave and areas of the squad Eddie Howe must bolster.

Clearly, there’s work to be done, but there are a whole host of names linked with the Magpies already. So, we’ve got the lowdown on who might be coming in and who could be leaving the club.

Can Newcastle United afford Elliot Anderson or James Garner?

It’s no secret that the central midfield area is something Newcastle need to fix, with Joelinton deemed to be a weak link in the middle of the park.

However, the idea of Elliot Anderson returning to Newcastle has been deemed unlikely thanks to information from our finance expert, who suggests any deal would significantly set the Magpies back financially in terms of PSR.

It’s thought Anderson could cost close to £100m. However, James Garner is another target, with Newcastle believed to have scouted the Everton man. His contract is up next summer, so he’d be a lot cheaper.

Another option to replace Joelinton is Ederson, the Brazilian midfielder plying his trade in Italy for Atalanta. He’s expected to cost around £40m and Newcastle are known to be interested.

Fabian Schar and Sven Botman exit rumours

Bringing players in is important, but Newcastle could be about to lose two key defenders in the near future.

Sven Botman is wanted by Liverpool. The centre-half is thought to have spoken to Eddie Howe about how much game time he will get when players return from injury, and that could dictate his future.

Meanwhile, fan favourite Fabian Schar has been linked with a move to Germany. Clubs in the Bundesliga have made enquiries about a January move, but the Magpies may be remiss to let him go.

Kees Smit is a Newcastle target

Dutch midfielder Kees Smit is wanted by Newcastle, but they may have to pay around £22m for the AZ Alkmaar teenager.

Newcastle fans don’t think a deal will happen, with the suspicion being that a more proven talent will be targeted, albeit at a higher fee.

The impressive midfielder has two goals and four assists in 19 games this season and has recently made the step up to the Netherlands U21 team.

Newcastle United transfer round-up: Tino Livramento, Leo Shahar, Kobbie Mainoo

Finally, we wrap up with a few quickfire stories that have caught our attention this weekend.

First of all, both Man United and Man City want Tino Livramento. United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, is a big factor in chasing the full-back, but it’s City who are most adamant about getting a deal done next year.

Elsewhere, Newcastle academy starlet Leo Shahar is due a loan move for next season. The young full-back is wanted on loan in January by clubs in the EFL, but is expected to be denied that chance at this stage.

And lastly, Newcastle’s pursuit of Kobbie Mainoo may be fruitless. They are definitely keen on the Man United ace, but it’s thought a midfielder may not be the priority in January.
