Chelsea’s Estêvão is already discovering a side of Carlo Ancelotti that many stars know well. The teenager has enjoyed jokes, advice and encouragement from the Italian manager. But he has also seen a stricter version of the coach.
The 18-year-old is the youngest player in Brazil’s squad. Ancelotti has paid close attention to him during recent international breaks. The coach likes to guide young talent and often mixes relaxed talks with firm corrections.
#### A lesson during Brazil training
[**Globo Esporte**](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/selecao-brasileira/noticia/2025/11/15/das-brincadeiras-e-conselhos-a-dura-em-treino-como-ancelotti-tenta-desenvolver-estevao.ghtml) reported that during the October window in South Korea, Estêvão received one of those firmer moments.
Reports in Brazil say a tactical drill stopped twice because the midfielder didn’t follow an instruction. Ancelotti wanted him to press the full-back as soon as the ball moved wide.
When Estêvão hesitated again, Ancelotti reacted sharply: _“I only say something once. Either you do what I’m telling you to do or you’re out of the team!”_
The outburst surprised some players and staff, but it stayed as an isolated moment.
#### Balance between humour and discipline
Most of the time, Ancelotti works with a lighter touch. He often jokes with the teenager and tries to build confidence. Estêvão even told Sky Sports that the manager likes to tease him in meetings and in training sessions.
For Chelsea, the mix is positive. Their £52m signing is learning Premier League football under Enzo Maresca and receiving extra guidance with Brazil. Ancelotti is giving him discipline when needed and support when possible.
The combination could shape his development. Estêvão now learns from two coaches who trust his potential and challenge him to grow.
