How serious is Aaron Rodgers’ wrist injury?
Aaron Rodgers exited the Steelers’ victory over the Bengals with a wrist injury, and he was due to undergo further evaluation. We should know relatively soon what that evaluation reveals, but until we do, his status is a mystery. While he should certainly return this season even under the worst-case scenario, the current range of possibilities is fairly wide.
Basically, it comes down to whether Rodgers needs surgery to address his wrist injury or not. If he doesn’t, then there is a realistic chance that he won’t miss any time, or perhaps a game. If he does need surgery, or is unable to postpone it, he could miss most of the regular season.
The Steelers cannot afford to lose any ground with the Ravens hot on their trail. As Pittsburgh breaks a 1-3 skid, Baltimore is on a four-game winning streak. While the Ravens have an easier overall remaining schedule, the two teams must still play twice. And the Steelers would certainly like Aaron Rodgers and his wrist to be available for them.
Mind you, the Steelers play the Ravens for the first time in just a few weeks, so if Rodgers needs surgery for his wrist injury, that’s simply not going to be an option. The only chance he has of playing both games is avoiding surgery, one would think. But I’m not a doctor, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn, so…
Before existing the game with his wrist injury to end the first half, Aaron Rodgers went 9-for-15 passing for 116 yards and a touchdown. In relief, Mason Rudolph finished the game 12-for-16 for 127 yards and a touchdown. Both benefitted heavily from short passes turned into long gains, a recipe they’d love to emulate.
Of course, the Steelers offense only scored 20 points, benefiting from two defensive touchdowns. Both Rodgers and Rudolph threw a touchdown pass to RB Kenneth Gainwell because…well, he was there, I guess. And, hey, they even won the time of possession battle…by 10 seconds.
After another disappointing season and months of retooling, the Steelers are set to try it all again in 2025. Though they limped into the playoffs, they once again embarrassed themselves therein.
Just like last year, the biggest question hanging over the Steelers isthe quarterback question. They settled in on Aaron Rodgers, but we still have a lot to learn about him. The2025 NFL Draft class could play a big role, but veteran additions like Jalen Ramsey will be paramount.
Now we are in the regular season. From Rodgers to George Pickens to Minkah Fitzpatrick and Ramsey, we’ve seen the Steelers make some big changes. Now it’s about evaluating the roster in place and figuring out how it all works out.
