PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles don’t mind that it’s looked ugly. Over the last seven days, the defending Super Bowl champs have strengthened their push for the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
The Eagles are 8-2 and atop the NFC, following up their Monday night win over the Green Bay Packers with a Sunday night victory over the Detroit Lions.
According to FanDuel, Philadelphia has the best betting odds (-130) to secure the No. 1 overall seed — and the first-round bye and home-field advantage that come with it.
Statistical projections favor the Eagles, as well. Philadelphia has a 50% chance to get the No. 1 seed, according to The Athletic’s projection model.
The next closest teams? The Los Angeles Rams (37%), Seattle Seahawks (6%) and San Francisco 49ers (2%).
It’s pretty straightforward for the Birds. They control their path to a bye and the NFC title coming through Lincoln Financial Field. If they win out, the No. 1 seed is theirs.
The Eagles hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Rams (8-2). Philly beat LA, 33-26, in September. They also hold tiebreakers over the Bucs (6-4), Packers (6-3-1) and Lions (6-4).
At this point, the NFC East is a mere formality. The Eagles have a greater than 99% chance to win the division, according to those same projection models from The Athletic.
It’s really just a matter of when the Eagles will become the first back-to-back winner of the NFC East since 2004. If the Eagles beat the Cowboys on Sunday — and if the Cowboys lose Monday night against the Raiders — Philly could have it wrapped up on Thanksgiving.
As if Eagles fans needed another reason to root against the Cowboys.
