Newcastle United have the small matter of playing against Erling Haaland on Saturday.
The Magpies have the unenviable task of facing Manchester City immediately after the international break, at a time when their Premier League form makes for worrying reading.
Eddie Howe needs a response from his team, but whether or not he gets one against Pep Guardiola’s side remains to be seen.
They are emerging as Premier League title contenders yet again, being propelled by the goals of Erling Haaland. He has been relentless this season, and has shown no signs of slowing down during the international break.

Erling Haaland continues fine form ahead of facing Newcastle United
Whether it is for Manchester City or Norway, Haaland knows how to score goals.
That continued on Sunday night, as he bagged a brace in Norway’s 4-1 win over Italy. The result guarantees their place at the 2026 World Cup, while Sandro Tonali and the Azzurri will have to settle for the playoffs.
Haaland’s two goals mean he ends the qualifying campaign with 16 goals.

To the surprise of no one, Man City’s number nine has not lost his sharpness during the international break. He has continued his good form, having already scored 19 goals in all competitions at club level.
In comparison, Newcastle United’s top scorer is Nick Woltemade with six.
Erling Haaland’s record against Newcastle United
Newcastle United will be fearful of Haaland ahead of Saturday evening’s game, but they can perhaps take heart from the 25-year-old’s less than stellar record against them.
Since arriving in England, Haaland has largely been unstoppable. However, he has not been quite as impactful against Newcastle United.
He has made six appearances against the Magpies, scoring just once. That came in a 3-3 draw at St James’ Park in August 2022. That was Haaland’s first appearance against Newcastle, and he has not hit the back of the net since.
While goals have not flowed, results have not been an issue for Haaland. His six appearances against Newcastle United have brought four wins and two draws.
