Myles Garrett showed his support for Shedeur Sanders after the rookie quarterback endured a tough debut for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Sanders finally got his first taste of regular-season action during the Week 11 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. The former Colorado star has had to be patient after his shocking draft slide, finding himself third on the depth chart to start the season.

He finally got a taste of the action at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday, replacing the concussed Dillon Gabriel at the start of the second half with the Browns leading 16-10. It proved to be a struggle for the fifth-round pick, who was overwhelmed by the Ravens' defense.

Sanders completed four of 16 passes for 47 yards and an interception as the Browns slumped to a 23-16 defeat to fall to 2-8 on the season. The 23-year-old gave a brutal assessment of his own performance.

But star pass rusher Garrett had his back when he faced the media after the game, with Sanders likely to have the starting job for next week's trip to the Las Vegas Raiders with fellow rookie Gabriel in concussion protocol.

"For sure, I mean, just tell him to keep his head up," Garrett said. "I know there was one drive in which he kind of walked off and I saw him, he was putting his head down.

"I know he wants to make the play, he wants to have that game change and drive because he feels like he had that ability and we've seen it. So don't be discouraged from one drive or two drives.

"It's a good football team over there. So I'm just trying to keep him to keep his confidence high. And keep on chasing that standard in which he's set.

"And we're gonna continue to support him. He spoke after the game and he wanted to pin it on himself and his performance, but we're not gonna allow him to do that. It's a team game, so we're all in this together."

Sanders has had precious few opportunities to practice with the Browns' starters since being drafted, and he believes that lack of chemistry was evident in his performance.

"I don't think I played good," Sanders said. "I don't think I played good at all. I think there's a lot of things we need to look at during the week and go and just get comfortable with even throwing routes with [wide receiver] Jerry [Jeudy] and throwing routes with all those guys. I think that was my first ball to him all year.

"But other than that, I just think overall, we just got to go next week and understand, so that we have a week to prepare stuff I like to do."
