Jacoby Brissett broke one of Jared Goff's NFL Records on Sunday

Records were made to be broken, and for Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, one of his just fell on Sunday before he even stepped on the field.

Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett completed 47 passes in the Cardinals' 41-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, which is now the most completed passes in a regular season game. That surpasses the previous record of 45 shared by Goff and former New England Patriot Drew Bledsoe.

When accounting for playoff games, Brissett's 47 completions are tied for the NFL record with Pittsburgh Steelers' legend Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 47 passes in a 2021 Wild Card loss to the Baker Mayfield-led Cleveland Browns.

Brissett attempted 57 passes and amassed 452 passing yards, both easily career highs. Brissett also threw for two touchdown passes and two interceptions in the loss. Brissett's 57 pass attempts were still well below the NFL record of 70 set by Bledsoe in his 45-completion game, which he did win in overtime against the Minnesota Vikings in 1994. Goff attempted 68 passes in his 45-completion game, but lost 55-40 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 while with the Los Angeles Rams.

Goff still possess NFL Records of his own

Goff may have lost one of his NFL records, but his name is still written in the history books. Goff's most notable distinction was his 100% completion percentage game against the Seattle Seahawks last season. Goff holds the NFL record for most pass attempts in a game with a 100% completion percentage. Goff is also the first QB with a 100% completion on more than ten attempts.

Goff is also one of nine QBs to have thrown for multiple games with a perfect passer rating, but he's the only one of them to have numerous such games with over 400 yards. In fact, Goff holds the NFL record for most yards (465) and completions (33) in a game with a perfect passer rating, both of which he achieved in his 2018 victory over the Vikings. The 33 completions record is tied with Deshaun Watson.

Goff may not have been able to enjoy holding on to this record for as long as Bledsoe did, but it was bound to be broken at some point. Luckily for Goff, he still has plenty of season to go to accumulate more records and awards -- or reclaim this one.
