Everton will need to sign a new striker and they have sent scouts to watch one of the hottest names in European football.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out what Everton’s biggest problem has been this season.

The Premier League is tighter than it has ever been with three consecutive wins enough for a team to get into Champions League contention. David Moyes might not be happy with the Toffees’ league position, however, he can be happy with how close they are to being back in consideration for the European places.

Everton send scouts to watch Troy Parrott

What Moyes will need in January is a striker, between Beto and Thierno Barry Everton have seen their main strikers score just once between them in over 20 appearances. Even a one in two record between them would have been enough for more points to have been one and for the table to be climbed. According to Everton News though, a new goalscorer is being targeted and one that is the talk of European football after his recent exploits.

The report claims that Everton scouts have been watching Parrott this week and they won’t fail to have been impressed after he scored five goals in two games against Portugal and Hungary. A 96th minute winner against Hungary to seal a play-off place and his hat-trick will be something that lives with the former Tottenham striker for a long time.

Having been sold by Spurs in the summer of 2024 to AZ Alkmaar, the Republic of Ireland international has been a prolific scorer in the Eredivisie and has 40 goal contributions (33 goals) in 61 appearances since moving to the Netherlands.

The sort of return that would make a huge difference to Everton. The defence and midfield is consistently and playmakers like Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye just need a striker who can finish the chances that they are creating.

Everton strikers holding David Moyes’ team back

Tim Sherwood is convinced that the current no.9s are holding Everton back and that the strikers have nobody to blame but themselves.

“Sometimes, you can protect strikers and say they are not getting the chances,” the former Tottenham boss explained on Premier League Productions. “But they are putting so many crosses into the box. They cross the ball more than most teams from left side to right side. The quality of the crosses might not always be fantastic but Beto is too isolated when he’s in the box.

“Whether it’s Barry or not, it’s too isolated when he’s there. He is very reluctant to play both of them because they’re not good enough. The bottom line is they’re not good enough and are showing they are not good enough.

“He is trying to help them out and find the solution as best as he can, David Moyes. They have got very good players; (Kiernan) Dewsbury-Hall is great, Jack Grealish we know, Ndiaye is a little superstar but they have got no focal point. They have got no-one to play off or make runs off.”
