FC Barcelona are set to face Athletic Club on 22 November, but there is still no clarity on whether the game will take place at the Spotify Camp Nou. The Catalan club is eager to return to its renovated home ground, but the decision from the City Council is still pending.
The return to the Camp Nou has been delayed longer than expected. Barcelona were originally scheduled to play at their home stadium at the start of the 2025/26 season, but the Montjuic Stadium has served as a temporary venue in the meantime.
According to [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20251117/1002570555/barca-espera-hoy-sobre-vuelta-spotify-camp-nou.html), Barcelona are awaiting positive news from the City Council today regarding the much-anticipated return to the Spotify Camp Nou. The club has submitted all the necessary documentation to secure the 1B license, which would allow the stadium to operate with a capacity of 45,000 spectators.
Currently, Barcelona hold a 1A license that permits 27,000 fans, but the team has preferred using the Montjuic Stadium, where the capacity is almost double. The 1B license would allow Barcelona to return to the Camp Nou and welcome around 45,000 fans.
Now, only the council’s approval is pending. [Barcelona hosted an open training session for fans ten days ago](https://semprebarca.com/eight-barcelona-players-stepped-on-to-the-spotify-camp-nou-pitch-for-the-first-ever-time-report/), and even the players seem excited to return home, as seen in Lamine’s recent Instagram story.
If Barcelona fail to return to the Camp Nou on 22 November, they will have to wait until the 29th, against Alaves, to return to their permanent home. Let us hope that the Catalan club can return to the Spotify Camp Nou and host Athletic Club.
