Liverpool risk losing the player for free at the end of the current Premier League season

Liverpool were busy on the recruitment front in the summer and brought in the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, among others, to bolster their ranks. They have the chance to sign some more new faces in the January transfer window. The Reds also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well if needed this winter.

Liverpool contract latest regarding Ibrahima Konate

Konate has told Sky Sports, as per The Daily Briefing: “I’ve seen a lot of things, particularly in the media. I saw that Liverpool made me a new offer recently. I don’t know where that information comes from, but now my agents are still discussing with Liverpool. I hope my decision will be made and I’ll be able to announce what I’ll do very soon.”

The 26-year-old, who is a France international with 26 caps to his name, joined the Reds back in 2021 to boost their defensive department. He has since made 148 appearances in all competitions, 16 of which have come in this campaign, and he has scored six goals. The centre-back has recently helped his country qualify for next year’s World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.

What now for Ibrahima Konate at Liverpool?

Liverpool’s Konate will be weighing up his options and has a big decision to make regarding his situation. He gives the Reds more competition and depth at the back. If he left, they would need to find a replacement.

The Paris-born man started out at Paris FC before switching to Sochaux. He then broke into the latter’s first-team as a youngster before RB Leipzig came calling. Konate went on to play 95 matches during his time in Germany and found the net on four occasions before opting for a transfer to England.

His teammate Virgil van Dijk hailed him last year and said: “He (Konate) is a fantastic player who still can be better. As you saw, he is important with the goal, he is defensively solid, a bit unlucky with the goal we conceded, but obviously the qualities he has are outstanding in my opinion. He is learning, growing, getting better and looking after himself much better in order to be ready every three days as that's what asked. And also we have a young player behind him in Jarrell (Quansah), who is also doing well. We have to keep pushing each other and he is doing a good job."
