NYPD seeks man for questioning in Jets player Kris Boyd shooting

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD is asking for the public’s help to identify a man sought for questioning in connection with the shooting of New York Jets player Kris Boyd.

The victim, identified by multiple sources as cornerback Boyd, remains in critical but stable condition on Monday morning, according to police.

The shooting occurred on Sunday at about 2:06 a.m. in the 100 block of 38th Street, according to a statement from the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

An unidentified individual discharged a firearm, striking a 29-year-old man in the abdomen. EMS responded and transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital, according to the police statement.

The unidentified individual fled the location on foot traveling eastbound on West 38 Street to parts unknown, according to the police statement.

The video shows the individual picking up something from the sidewalk and then running away.

Authorities are trying to determine if Boyd was the intended target. He was standing with a small group of people in front of a restaurant when there was a verbal dispute and a gun was fired, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

Police described the individual sought for questioning as a male with a medium complexion who was seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black book bag.

The NYPD supplied the media with photos and video of the individual sought for questioning.
