Liverpool forked out big money to land the player from Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the summer

Liverpool are back in Premier League action this weekend against Nottingham Forest. They will be looking to bounce back from their defeat away at Manchester City last time out. The international break has given them time to rest and recharge.

The Reds have made a slow start to the new season and find themselves down in a disappointing 8th place in the table. They still have plenty of time to turn things around over the coming weeks though. Arne Slot’s side are only a point off the top four after their first 11 fixtures.

Liverpool update regarding Alexander Isak

Liverpool signed striker Alexander Isak in the summer to boost their attacking department. He left Newcastle United to take on a new challenge at Anfield. However, things haven’t gone to plan for him yet.

Isak, 26, penned a long-term contract running until June 2031. The former Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad man has scored only one goal in his first eight matches though. Prior to his transfer, he fired 62 goals in 109 outings during his prolific spell at St James’ Park.

The Sweden international, who has 56 caps to his name, has been struggling with his fitness over recent times though. In this latest update regarding his condition after featuring for his country against Switzerland over the weekend, he has said, as per a report by the Daily Mail: "It felt okay. I feel like the reaction was good after the match in my body. Hopefully I can play properly in the next match (against Slovenia on Tuesday night). It’s always frustrating when you’re injured. Regardless of whether it’s one match or more. It’s always worst for the player himself."

What now for Alexander Isak at Liverpool?

Liverpool are having to be patient with Isak at the moment. He proved at Newcastle that he knows where the back of the net is at the top level. The Reds are biding their time with him at the moment and will hope that he can find his shooting boots soon.

His minutes for Sweden will do him good as he aims to get up to full speed. When he is fully available, he will battle it out with the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo for a place in Slot’s starting XI. After linking up with the Merseyside giants back in August, he said at the time: “I feel amazing.

“It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”

He added: “I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well. I want to win everything.”
