Nick Sirianni says what every Eagles fan wished would have happened vs. Lions

Philadelphia Eagles fans are growing tired of having to find oxygen after every game, as the team once again survives another close contest, taking down the Detroit Lions 16-9.

The thing that everyone would love to see is more games like the second New York Giants matchup, when the Eagles won that by 18 points. That hasn't happened, as the rest of their seven wins have been decided by seven points or fewer this season.

After the gritty win over the Lions, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni spoke about winning yet another close game. While he acknowledges that he is like every fan and wants blowout wins, he understands how to earn a tough win in the NFL.

"I’d like to win every game by 30 points. I don’t think that’s the reality of the NFL. I think we take a lot of pride in just winning, period. That’s all this thing’s about, right? I’ve been on the other side where you lose and you’re sick about it, right? That doesn’t mean that you don’t go to work like a madman the next day and try to fix everything that made it not a big two-score win or three-score win. I think the answer really is [that] we take pride in winning. I think our guys have this knack of knowing."

Eagles fans just need to get used to close wins being a thing in 2025

It's pretty much a common trend in 2025 that the Eagles will win close games. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as the more of these games Philly is involved in, the better they will be when the postseason rolls around.

The problem lies with this, which will happen time and again throughout the season, due to the inefficiency of the offense. Philly's defense has allowed just 16 points in the last two games, which is impressive, but the offense has scored just 26 points.

There is some credit that needs to be given, as the Eagles beat two playoff-caliber teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Lions. These would always be challenging games, but the offense has not shown up. Costly penalties and mental errors have held back this offense from reaching its full potential.

The mainstream sports media will likely criticize the Eagles all week for the poor performance of the offense, but the reality is that people need to stop comparing the 2025 Eagles to the 2024 team. They are not the same as this year's team, which is finding its own ways to win games, and that's okay as long as they continue to win.
