James Garner could be preparing to wave goodbye to Everton in January.

Garner has been an important asset for Everton this campaign, as David Moyes continues to extract more from the Englishman.

The versatile midfielder has featured alongside another top Everton performer in Idrissa Gueye, helping form a useful duo at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

That partnership could soon be broken up on Merseyside as the Toffees prepare for potential change ahead of the winter window.

Garner could be on his way out of Everton, with talks underway over a potential loan deal moving closer to January.

James Garner could fall victim to January loan transfer

Garner has emerged as a target for Newcastle United, as links away from L4 continue to grow for the former Manchester United man.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Blues.

That could open him up to a £20million switch to St James’ Park, something which the Toffees could be inclined to accept.

A replacement option would allow a Garner exit to be agreed, so with Everton looking at signing James Ward-Prowse from West Ham, it could be a typical transfer domino effect.

The Hammers have held early talks with the Merseyside outfit over a deal for the midfielder, but Moyes wants a deal featuring a loan with an option to buy clause.

Should the East London club open themselves up to the 31-year-old’s exit, it could also prove to be the end for Garner at Bramley Moore.

Ward-Prowse could replace Garner at Everton

It would be a bold call to let Garner go at this stage of the season, but if he won’t sign a new deal, then it could be a wise move.

Everton can’t really afford to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer, so getting any sort of fee in January would be a boost.

The Toffees would need an alternative before letting him move on, and Ward-Prowse could prove to be exactly that.

The Englishman worked with Moyes at West Ham and could represent a useful squad addition if a cheap fee can be agreed at the end of an initial loan.

It will be interesting to see how this saga unfolds, but if it plays out in this way, the Hill Dickinson Stadium faithful are likely to be unimpressed.
