Ex-Browns QB sets NFL passing record

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett on Sunday broke an NFL passing record that had stood for more than 30 years.

Brissett threw for a record 47 completions in the Cardinals’ 41-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The previous record was 45 completions set by Drew Bledsoe in 1994 and tied by Jared Goff in 2019.

In addition to setting the single-game pass completions record, Brissett also achieved a personal best with a career-high 452 passing yards.

However, after the loss dropped the Cardinals to 3-7 on the season, Brissett said he would trade the personal accomplishments in exchange for team success.

“I’ll throw for three yards and win right now. I genuinely feel that way,” he told reporters after the game.

“I promise you man, I can care less about that part of it. Man, I hope somebody breaks it tomorrow or whenever. I mean, I just want to win,” he said.

Brissett, 32, is in his 10th NFL season and first with the Cardinals. He has played for a different team each season dating back to 2020: the Cardinals, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts. He played four seasons with Indy after playing his rookie season as a backup for the Patriots behind legendary quarterback Tom Brady.

Brissett has made 58 starts in 94 games played in his career, completing 61.7% of his pass attempts for 12,970 yards, 63 touchdowns and 27 interceptions.
