While some fans at Winnipeg’s Princess Auto Stadium cheered Carney, he was also on the receiving end of boos and foul-mouthed chants.

Whether the negative attention bothered him or not, it didn’t show on Carney’s face. The prime minister smiled, waved and even took photos with some fans.

The Grey Cup brings Canadians together across provinces, territories, and time zones to celebrate the very best of Canadian football — and last night was no exception.

“The Grey Cup brings Canadians together across provinces, territories, and time zones to celebrate the very best of Canadian football — and last night was no exception,” Carney wrote in a post on X. “Thanks for having me, Winnipeg, and congrats to the @sskroughriders on the big win.”

A social media post that Carney shared included a video of the coin toss along with footage of him interacting with fans. TSN feed lowered the audio of any booing and jeering.

Some vocal fans took to social media to voice their displeasure with Carney.

“Great he’s getting the respect he deserves publicly finally, he truly let the country down,” one fan stated.

“So happy to hear the crowd boo Carney!! Just made my day!! He so deserved it,” wrote another.

The 112th Grey Cup began with a pre-show performance by Canadian rock group Our Lady Peace. American rapper MGK performed during the halftime show.

The Roughriders defeated the Alouettes 25-17 to claim their fifth Grey Cup championship.
