The Boston Celtics weathered a late surge from the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday to pick up a 121-118 victory, pushing their record back to 7-7 on the season. As has been the case most of the season, Jaylen Brown was the guy at the controls for the Celtics in this one. With Jayson Tatum still recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, Brown has had to shoulder a bigger load on offense this season. He has continually proven he’s capable of leading the way, with his 33-point, 13-rebound performance against the Clippers being the latest evidence. It wasn’t a perfect game, as James Harden caught fire late and nearly willed his team to a win, but Boston found a way to win in the clutch, which hasn’t always been the team’s calling card this year. And now that they are back at the .500 mark, Brown believes this team is capable of accomplishing some big things. “We’re continuing to learn, continuing to get better and cleaning up a lot of areas,” Brown said immediately after the final buzzer sounded. “I’m super optimistic about the rest of our season. Let’s see how it goes.” Despite sitting at just the No. 10 seed in the Eastern Conference currently, the Celtics have been a top 10 team on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball so far this year. As a result, if those numbers remain strong, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them make a run up the standings in the near future. Things are trending up, though, and the team will look to keep up the positive momentum on Tuesday night when they take on the Brooklyn Nets.
