Jets cornerback in critical condition as police look for man accused of shooting him

Police are seeking public help to identify a man wanted in the shooting of New York Jets cornerback and special teams standout Kris Boyd.

New York police released surveillance images of a man sought in the shooting, which happened outside a business on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue just after 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Boyd remained in critical but stable condition on Monday, according to ESPN.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation. No other injuries were reported. According to the New York Post, the shooter fired two shots after getting into a dispute with the 29-year-old Boyd.

The Jets, who lost to the Patriots on Thursday Night Football, said they are “aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd” but have declined further comment.

“Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety,” Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson posted to X. “Lord I ask that you please just get him through this safely. In your name, Amen.”

Boyd has been on injured reserve this season, his first with the Jets, since August. He was expected to be a key special teams contributor for former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who is in his first season as Jets coach.

Boyd played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas in 2019. He also spent time with the Cardinals and Texans.
