The star tight end broke a franchise record, posting his 84th touchdown

With the loss, the Chiefs fell to 5-5 on the season

Travis Kelce was not interested in talking about his franchise record-setting touchdown on Sunday, Nov. 16.

“If you’re going to ask me about the record, I could care less about that right now,” Kelce, 36, told reporters.

The Kansas City Chiefs star declined to address the media following the team’s 22-19 loss to the Denver Broncos, which dropped the Chiefs to 5-5 on the season and out of the playoff picture, at least for now.

The tight end surpassed running back Priest Holmes’ record after catching a short pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and running it in for a 21-yard touchdown.

The Chiefs went up 19-16 with the marker, but went on to eventually lose the game after the Broncos scored on a last-second field goal.

Mahomes had more to say about the Chiefs’ disappointing loss, which became the fifth time this season that the team has lost in a one-score game. Last year, the Chiefs were 12-0 in games decided by eight or fewer points, according to ESPN.

“I think we’re really talented and we’ve got a lot of great players, but it’s about being more consistent,” Mahomes, 30, said. “I think it starts with me. There’s times where I’m firing and we’re moving the ball down the field at ease. But there’s times where we go in spurts where I miss a throw or a [pass] protection call. We haven’t been consistent enough to win games. It starts with me.”

With a .500 record, the Chiefs’ schedule doesn’t get any easier next week, when the 8-2 Indianapolis Colts visit Arrowhead Stadium.

But the defending AFC champions then take on the Dallas Cowboys (3-5-1), Houston Texans (5-5), Tennessee Titans (1-9) and Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) — all teams who have also faced their own share of struggles this season.

And the Chiefs also get another chance to avenge Sunday’s loss with a Christmas Day rematch against the Broncos in Kansas City.

For Mahomes, the season's success stands in the balance.

"It's going to be tough to get back in the division race," he said. "The goal is to get into the playoffs and try to make a run at it. We're kind of at that point where we've got to find a way to win games."
