Tottenham Hotspur have begun weighing up a major January move for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.
Spurs have clear issues within the squad that must be addressed if they are serious about building on last season’s Europa League success. One of the most pressing concerns is the lack of a quality left-winger who can consistently create and score goals. Thomas Frank urgently requires a dynamic left-winger who can help the club close the gap on its rivals moving forward.
The Lilywhites were heavily linked with a move for Antoine Semenyo in the past summer transfer window. A move did not materialise, and Tottenham ultimately secured Mohammed Kudus from West Ham instead. Semenyo, meanwhile, penned a lucrative five-year contract with the Cherries until 2030 in July.
The Ghanaian international has continued to deliver strong performances this season. Only Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland (11) and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (8) have scored more Premier League goals than Semenyo (6) this term thus far. It follows on from a return of 11 top-flight goals last campaign for the speedy and versatile winger.

Recent reports suggest Liverpool have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Semenyo. He proved a real handful for both Liverpool and Tottenham earlier this season, so they are well aware of the Bournemouth ace’s qualities on and off the ball.
Now, Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood has given his verdict on both Spurs and Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo. He has compared him to Arsenal playmaker Eberechi Eze, suggesting the Bournemouth man could be a coveted commodity in the next transfer windows just like Eze was at Crystal Palace before he joined the Gunners in the summer.
“He needs to keep himself fit, doesn’t he? There will be a queue a mile long for this boy. He’s top drawer, really a wonderful player,” Tim Sherwood told Sky Sports (h/t Football Insider).
“He doesn’t have to settle into the Premier League, and you know what you’re gonna get. The only question mark would be, it’s okay playing for Bournemouth and Bristol City, but can you play for Liverpool?
“Can you play for Tottenham when the spotlight is on? Can you play for Arsenal, you know? He reminds me of… His career is a bit like Eze. A little bit. And he’s stepped up at Arsenal. He’s been outstanding.
“There’s never a 100 per cent sure thing, but I think he’s the nearest you’re ever going to come to it.”

Tough for Spurs to land Semenyo
Semenyo would immediately improve both the squads at Tottenham and Liverpool. He’d be an upgrade on the likes of Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert in N17, while the Reds could land a long-term replacement for their ageing superstar Mohamed Salah.
The £100m capital investment made by the Lewis family in October will be useful in the upcoming winter window as the Lilywhites aim to strengthen their attack once again. However, the African star prefers a move to Liverpool over other clubs in 2026. He is “very keen” to join the Merseyside giants, with the attacker’s versatility to operate across the front line aligning perfectly with Arne Slot’s system.
Therefore, Spurs will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to tempt Semenyo to choosing Thomas Frank’s project over Slot’s at Anfield.
