The Atlanta Falcons are thoroughly buried in a competitive NFC playoff race with just seven weeks remaining in the NFL regular season, and the news just continues to get worse for Raheem Morris’ team after their brutal 3-7 start to the 2025 campaign.

On Monday, the Falcons were dealt a massive injury blow when ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will likely miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury during Sunday’s loss against Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers.

While Schefter also revealed that Penix Jr. will be attempting to get a second opinion from medical professionals it doesn’t look promising for the former Washington Huskies standout that was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
This season, Penix Jr. has over 1,900 yards passing and just nine touchdown passes in his nine appearances, and it’s certainly been a struggle for him and the Falcons to find consistency on the offensive side of the football despite the fact that Atlanta has Bijan Robinson and Drake London at his disposal.

That leaves veteran Kirk Cousins as the likely option to step in for Michael Penix Jr. for the rest of the season after the team gave him a $180 million contract that included $100 million in guaranteed money in April 2024.
