The Philadelphia Eagles will seemingly be without one of their best players for at least a month.
Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering a Lisfranc sprain on Sunday, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Johnson, who exited Sunday night’s win over the Detroit Lions with the injury, will likely land on injured reserve. But the belief is that Johnson’s injury is not season-ending.
Rapoport and Garafolo also reported that Johnson will “seek a second opinion and more tests.”
The Eagles are fortunate not to lose Johnson, the five-time All-Pro and future Hall of Famer, for the rest of the year. But it’s still a major blow to the defending Super Bowl champs.
Johnson picked up the Lisfranc sprain in the first quarter against Detroit. Johnson went into the blue medical tent and later walked to the locker room with trainers.
Johnson was ruled questionable to return and was later downgraded to out in the Eagles’ 16-9 win over the Lions.
This is just the latest hurdle in an injury-plagued campaign for Johnson. The 35-year-old missed time earlier this season with neck, back and ankle injuries. Johnson left last Monday’s game against the Green Bay Packers with an ankle and only returned for the game’s final drive.
Without Johnson, the Eagles will likely rely on veteran Fred Johnson to step in and start.
“He’s a leader up there. Hall of Famer. Great talent,” running back Saquon Barkley said of Lane Johnson. “I think Fred did a really good job of stepping in for him. I don’t really know what happened. Hope he gets healthy. Because we’re a better team when he’s on the field.”
