Rapoport notes that head coach Aaron Glenn has informed both Taylor and previous starter Justin Fields of the decision.
Through 10 games, the Jets are last in the NFL in passing yards per game at 139.9. The 31st-ranked Cleveland Browns are nearly 20 yards a game ahead of the jets at 159.4.
Fields, 26, has struggled in his first season with the team. In nine games, he’s thrown for 1,259 yards on 128-for-204 passing with seven touchdowns and one interception. The Ohio State product has been sacked 27 times.
This will be a 60th career start for the 36-year-old Taylor, who is in his 15th season out of Virginia Tech, and his second this season. He’s appeared in three games for the Jets this year, throwing for 379 yards on 43-for-69 passing with three TDs and three picks. A native of Hampton, VA, Taylor has previously suited up for the New York Giants, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.
The Jets (2-7) have won two of their last three games.
