“Exactly as I’d hoped” – Player talks about agreement to join Chelsea in 2026

RC Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha is pleased to have agreed a deal to join Chelsea after this season.

Earlier this month, the striker received his first call-up from the Netherlands to replace Ajax’s Wout Weghorst. He picked up an injury in training forcing Ronald Koeman to make late changes by including Emegha in his list.

The incoming Chelsea player made his senior debut when he came off the bench against Poland last Friday.

On September 12th, Chelsea reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 side for him to arrive at Stamford Bridge next summer. This didn’t please the Strasbourg supporters, who were critical of him and their president, Marc Keller.

After securing an agreement with the Club World Cup winners, the Dutchman says his decision to join the Ligue 1 side has paid off.

Strasbourg signed the frontman from Sturm Graz in July 2023. He was initially not aware of the French club.

_“To be honest, I didn’t even know where that was. I thought it was in Germany, but it turned out to be in France. Well, I think everyone knows Strasbourg now,”_ he said.

Strasbourg are owned by BlueCo, who also own the west London club. This collaboration has now benefited him for his future move to Chelsea.

_“Strasbourg really had a plan for young players like me. Well, that’s worked out. I was the first player they started this process with, and next season I’m going to Chelsea. So, it went exactly as I’d hoped,”_ Emegha explained.
