Nike unveiled the GT Future during NBA All-Star Weekend in February, and the contemporary basketball sneaker draws clear lineage from the Air Foamposite One. A super-limited release christened the model over the summer with just 300 pairs of the “Fire” colorway dropping in New York City, but the wider public will finally get a shot at the shoe in just over a month.
The Nike GT Future “Metallic Silver” will serve as the new silhouette’s first wide release in December. Its namesake color is used for the molded wavy upper, while the trim, tongue and majority of the branding is cast in black. A top-facing silver Swoosh can then be found on the tongue with raised striping, while hits of metallic blue arrive on the insole and the “GT Future” mark on the outsole.

Despite how long it’s been since Nike went public with the GT Future, it hasn’t said much on how the shoe’s sculpted upper is formed. Given its similar appearance, the assumption is that it uses the same process as Foamposite. What has been confirmed, however, is that a Cushlon 3.0 midsole is reinforced with a full-length Zoom strobel and a forefoot Air Zoom unit.

“The GT Future has both the next-level Nike performance innovation and the wow factor of a spaceship or a new sports car,” GT Future designer Jason Petrie said in a July press release. “The shoe is evocative, futuristic and designed to connect directly with the next generation of hoopers — so when they put it on, they feel bouncy, fast and like they’re the freshest kid on the court or in class.”
For the GT Future’s debut, Nike made 300 pairs of the “Fire” colorway available to purchase exclusively for attendees of a NY vs. NY tournament game in Central Park. A third edition in yellow has also been shown through official channels, though no release info on it has come yet.
The Nike GT Future “Metallic Silver” will release Dec. 20 through Nike’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $200.
