Andy Robertson has backed Scotland kid Ben Gannon-Doak to torment Denmark at Hampden.

The skipper was a mentor to the winger at Liverpool before Gannon-Doak moved to Bournemouth in the summer.

Roberson knows what the 20-year-old is capable of and says we saw flashes of his talent against Greece in Athens on Saturday night when he scored his first international goal.

Steve Clarke looks set to throw Gannon-Doak in against the Danes for a winner-takes-all World Cup qualifier tomorrow night.

And the Scotland captain has total faith in the youngster to deliver.

Robertson said: “I've seen Ben from a young age. He's a great kid who still has so much potential.

“He’s still so young within the game. I thought in the last half-hour against Greece, he really kicked into gear.

“I don't think the first 60 was up there with his best from what I've seen of him.

“He will be the first to admit that. But that's why I've got so much time for him because he's his biggest critic at times.

“He probably reminds me of myself in that sense - but I think I'm a bit smarter than him!

“He got the goal against Greece, got confidence from it, and then started causing problems.

“We’ll need all our front men to be able to cause their defence problems on Tuesday night.

“The result against Denmark away from home, a 0-0, was a really good one.

“But that's not enough now, we need to win the game.

“We're going to need somebody to step up and everyone defensively to try and keep a clean sheet.”

Robertson has called on the Tartan Army to create an incredible atmosphere against the Danes, which can hopefully get them over the line.

But he knows the whole country will be behind them as they bid to reach the USA, Canada and Mexico next summer.

He said: “I think the pub and bar owners will be delighted that Belarus got that draw against Denmark!

“They'll be busy and we know Hampden will be a sell-out and packed.

“We've been very fortunate in going to the Euros and feeling the whole country behind us - because that's not always been the case.

“’We’ve always felt the love from the country and the people behind us.

“We only landed back from Greece on Sunday night but even walking through the airport - and then seeing people out today - they were wishing us well and good luck.

“They hope we can do it and it's a massive thing for all of us to feel that love, knowing that they are right behind us.

“We'll definitely feel it on Tuesday night and it's up to us to deliver it for them.”
