With both sides having qualified for the 2026 World Cup finals, the game – staged in the United Arab Emirates - formed the starting point in their respective preparations for next month’s African Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco.
It was Cape Verde who struck first, Garry Rodrigues converting a seventh minute penalty the fire the island nation ahead.
However, the Pharaohs hit back after the break thanks to City striker Marmoush who levelled affairs with a fine 57th minute strike.
With neither side able to make another breakthrough, the game went to a penalty shootout.
And though Marmoush saw his spot-kick saved, Egypt prevailed 2-0 in the shootout to take the third-place honours.
