New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is finally making an official change at the quarterback position: the team will start backup Tyrod Taylor under center next week against the Baltimore Ravens instead of incumbent starter Justin Fields.
Glenn seemingly attempted to bench him earlier this season before a late injury to Taylor opened the door back up for the former Chicago Bears first-round pick, and Fields led a miraculous comeback victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 2-8 Jets inked the 26-year-old to a two-year, $40 million contract ($30 million guaranteed) last offseason on either a trial deal for a future long-term pact, or as a stopgap before the franchise drafts yet another quarterback at the top of the NFL Draft.

In nine games this season, the Ohio State product has completed 62.7% of his passes for 1,259 yards and a surprisingly sparkling 7-1 touchdown-interception ratio.
He's added a further 383 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground, and his 37.7 QBR ranks 30th in the league.
Fields made the most of the weapons he had around him last Thursday against the 8-2 New England Patriots. With star wideout Garrett Wilson injured, the Jets receiver depth chart featured the likes of John Metchie, AD Mitchell, and Arian Smith.

Fields completed 15 of his 26 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, adding 67 yards and a score on the ground in a 27-14 loss. "I mean, yeah, it's tough, but at the end of the day, you can't complain about it," he said of his pass catchers.
Glenn, speaking with reporters last Friday, teased that a move may be in the pipeline when he said, "I'm evaluating everything, to be honest with you."
He didn't mince his words when summarizing the offense. “We've got to get a lot better in the passing game," Glenn asserted. "Listen, I don’t think that’s any surprise to anybody."
"But when you look at that game, again, I thought he did some good things as far as getting the ball out to these guys, but I thought he did some things he has to improve, because there were some open guys that we missed, and he would tell you that.”

Taylor, 36, has started 59 games in his lengthy NFL career, including in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he completed 26 of his 36 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. The 15-year veteran was once a Pro Bowler with the Buffalo Bills.

It's unclear whether Glenn will demote Fields to the team's third-string quarterback behind current practice squad QB Brady Cook, who has yet to play in the NFL.
