The New York Jets announced Monday that they are benching quarterback Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor will start under center in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens.

The decision comes after the Jets dropped to 2-8 with a 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football in Week 11, a game in which Fields completed 15-of-26 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.

On the season, the Jets own the NFL’s worst passing offense, a major reason for head coach Aaron Glenn’s decision to swap out Fields for a more adept option in Taylor. New York averages 139.9 passing yards per game in 2025, nearly 20 yards fewer than the next-lowest team (Cleveland Browns, 159.3 pass yards per game).

Fields, who is in his first season with the Jets, has started nine games this year and finished with below 54 passing yards on four occasions.

He has one game with more than one passing touchdown, which came in Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The former Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers QB is still considered one of the best running quarterbacks in the league, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in a starting job.

Taylor, a 15-year NFL veteran, comes into the starting role having already started one game this season, a 29-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. In that game, the 36-year-old threw for 197 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

Perhaps surprisingly, Fields has been a solid fantasy football option at different points this season, mostly due to his proficiency running the ball. The fifth-year QB has three rushing touchdowns and 383 total yards on the ground this season.

Fields is the 20th-ranked quarterback in fantasy, outscoring CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniels, and Lamar Jackson, all of whom have missed time due to injury.

His fantasy campaign has been boom or bust, though, having scored 19 or more fantasy points in five of nine starts and fewer than eight points in his other four. Fields finished as QB7 or better four times this season.

Taylor, who will make his second start of the year in Week 12, posted a respectable 17.68 fantasy points in Week 3 against Tampa Bay.

The new Jets starter should be viewed as a low-end QB option for your fantasy team, starting in Week 12 when facing a much-improved Ravens defense.

In a week in which there were several injuries to starting quarterbacks around the NFL, Taylor may be one of the better waiver wire options available ahead of Week 12.

Jets running back Breece Hall gains some fantasy value because Taylor won’t run as much as Fields, while pass catchers Mason Taylor, John Metchie, and Adonai Mitchell are expected to post better numbers with Taylor as their signal-caller.
