Clippers Coach Praises Celtics Star After Monster Game

It wasn’t easy, but the Boston Celtics took care of business on Sunday, beating the Los Angeles Clippers 121-118 at TD Garden. While James Harden led the way with 37 points for the Clippers, it was more of a team effort for the Celtics. Jaylen Brown scored 33 points, Payton Pritchard had 30 and Derrick White notched 22. The 30 points were a season high for Pritchard, who shot 10 of 16 from the floor. He was especially lethal from beyond the arc, drilling a season-best eight 3-pointers on 13 attempts. Los Angeles simply had no answer for Pritchard, allowing him to turn in one of the best performances of his career. After the game, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue praised the reigning Sixth Man of the Year and his impact on Boston. Tyronn Lue says the Clippers talked about taking Payton Pritchard’s threes out of the game.He finished with 8 on 61.5% shooting.I asked Lue how different the Celtics are when Pritchard can get going:“Really different. We just can’t allow Pritchard to get going,” Lue said during his postgame press conference. “Him and Derrick White are huge for that team. They’re keys for that team. When they’re making shots, they’re a totally different team.” Story continues below advertisement The Celtics have been waiting for Pritchard to get going after his slow start to the season. Through his first 12 games, he shot just 41.9 percent from the field, including 25.6 percent from downtown. Pritchard has turned things around over his last two games, however, scoring 54 points and draining 13 3-pointers. Not surprisingly, Boston won both of those contests behind his stellar performances. While he’s struggled with his consistency so far, he appears to be breaking out of his early-season slump. The 27-year-old guard will look to stay hot on Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center.
