Liverpool and Nottingham Forest have both endured difficult starts to the 2025/26 season.

The defending Premier League champions have struggled to build momentum, while Forest, who secured European football last season, have also faltered early on.

Arne Slot is finding it challenging to integrate his new signings into a system that has served Liverpool so well in the past, and the team have so far been unable to replicate last season’s consistency.

Forest, meanwhile, have suffered from managerial instability, which has contributed significantly to their slow start.

They now face the task of reassessing their approach in a bid to pull themselves out of their current slump.

After the international break, Liverpool will be determined to rediscover their best form as they welcome Nottingham Forest to the iconic Anfield Stadium on Saturday.

With another valuable three points at stake, both teams will return to Premier League action with renewed purpose and energy.

The Reds were dealt a major blow in their title defence last week, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Slot’s side currently sit eighth in the Premier League table, eight points behind leaders Arsenal, and have already lost five matches in the top flight this season.

“It feels there’s too many (defeats), and the last thing I should think about now is the title race,” Slot told reporters after Liverpool’s defeat to Man City,

“We should first focus on getting results, result and result after result before we can even think about that.

“The reality is we are eighth now, one team is quite far ahead although City is four points away from Arsenal.

“The rest is quite close.”

The Premier League have now confirmed the match officials for Liverpool’s upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest.

Andy Madley has been appointed as the referee for the Saturday afternoon kick-off at Anfield.

He will be assisted by Adrian Holmes and Simon Long, while Adam Herczeg will serve as the fourth official.

James Bell will take charge of VAR, supported by Mark Scholes.
