Was progress made Sunday in the world of the Buccaneers? Absolutely. It’s as sure as the crisp on Joe’s fried haddock sandwich Saturday in downtown Buffalo.
Todd Bowles told a national audience today that he’s feeling confident.
“We’re close to putting all three phases together. We put a few more phases together yesterday,” Bowles said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “We’ve just got to tie it all togethter. And I’m confident we’ll do that.”
Joe will play optimist, too. The Bucs’ offensive line is improving weekly, and backup guards Michael Jordan and Dan Feeney got the job done yesterday.
How many teams run the ball dominantly with backup guards, guys whose ceilings aren’t exactly high? And the Bucs also accomplished that with wide receivers and tight ends posing little threat yesterday. Those groups combined for only 128 yards receiving.
There was no stopping the Bucs’ run game yesterday, at least nobody on the opposing team.
As for the Bucs defense, Bowles got his turnover “phase” cooking with two interceptions. Tykee Smith and rookie Jacob Parrish are impressive young defensive backs. The punt game was good, too.
Bowles says the Bucs are close to putting offense, defense and special teams together. Should fans buy in?
