76ers Coach Shares Important Update on Joel Embiid's Injury Timeline

Joel Embiid is back on the Philadelphia 76ers' injury report and hasn't had a chance to play in some time.

Unfortunately, the veteran center's playing status took a hit last week after he reported knee soreness to the Sixers' medical staff. As a result, the team downgraded him against the Boston Celtics, ruling him out.

"We had shootaround today, obviously had a day off yesterday, he just reported a little soreness in his right knee," Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said last week. "He had some imaging on that this afternoon, and the doctors are here tonight to go over that with him. Not [expecting] an urgent update, but this evening, yeah. No expectations at all. We're going to see what they say about the imaging.”

The Sixers didn't get any alarming results from the imaging that Nurse mentioned, but they haven't trotted Embiid out on the court since he's been out with his current issue.

On Sunday night, the Sixers ruled out Embiid on the injury report against the Los Angeles Clippers for Monday night. He is going to miss his fourth game in a row.

Before the action on Monday, Nick Nurse noted there isn’t a target date for Embiid’s return just yet. However, he is under the impression that the return isn’t far away.

The last time the Sixers saw Embiid in action was back on November 8. The Sixers played the Toronto Raptors at the time, and Embiid played nearly 26 minutes, which marked a season high.

Since he debuted with the team on opening night in Boston, Embiid has been restricted with his playing time. At first, he was capped for around 20 minutes. That was increased to 25 for his last few games.

When Embiid played last, he shot 10-16 from the field to score 29 points. He produced four assists, six rebounds, and one block before going on a four-game absence.

Overall, Embiid is posting an average of 19.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 blocks in six games. His return to action is unclear for the time being.
