England manager Thomas Tuchel will personally speak with every player omitted from his latest squad to explain his decisions and outline what they must do to force their way into contention for next summer’s World Cup.

Harry Kane netted twice in the second half as England beat Albania to complete a perfect qualifying campaign, winning all eight matches on Sunday.

The Three Lions had already secured top spot in their group.

Kane, whose brace took him to 78 international goals, opened the scoring in the 74th minute by bundling home from close range after a Bukayo Saka corner.

He added his second eight minutes later, heading in an excellent cross from Marcus Rashford.

The victory means England are the first European team to win at least six qualifiers and do so without conceding a single goal.

Jack Grealish and former Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold were among the high-profile absentees from the squad for this month’s fixtures against Serbia and Albania.

The England manager acknowledged that Jarell Quansah is currently ahead of Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order.

The 27-year-old has been absent from England’s last three squads and has not featured since his move to Real Madrid.

“First of all, it’s my job now to make contact with everyone,” Thomas Tuchel said.

“Players like Trent, players that are on our long list, 55, 60 players, to reach out to them, be in touch with them, explain to them why they were not here.

“Explain to them what they have to do, where they can improve.

“Can they even do something or is it just a choice, so this is my job in the next weeks and months.”

The former Chelsea boss added: “Of course I have a lot of trust in Jarell.

“I see his talent, but I see the package. He is tall, he is fast, he is strong in build-up.

“He is strong in the air.

“He plays every minute for Leverkusen since the Under-21 Euros, so he is at the moment a tiny bit ahead.”

Tuchel will reconvene with his squad during the March international break before naming his final list for the World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19 across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
