NFL, ice hockey, rugby? What Echo readers would like to see at Vitality Stadium

The stadium has hosted other events beyond football, such as Chris Billam-Smith’s world title-winning fight against Lawrence Okolie and an Elton John concert.

The Daily Echo asked readers what they’d like to see hosted at the ground – leading to a range of suggestions and support for Frevola’s offer.

James McCafferey, Luke Bd, John Preest and Gary Peyman all supported the suggestion of ice hockey, with the latter saying it would be ‘the only way’ to get him to into a football stadium.

Michelle L Rose also backed the idea and said: “I think it’s a great idea!!

“Letting out the stadium in the closed season lends itself to so many other events, just like other clubs have done, I’m sure you’ve all attended events such as gigs/boxing etc etc at other sports venues… increased exposure for our club, along with increased revenue... I also think external food outlets, like other clubs, would be beneficial too.”

Karl Barlow would like another North American sport to visit in American football and the NFL, which Roo Swyer suggested something a little closer to home in speedway.

Niall Matthews says there is an opportunity to establish a rugby club in the area based out of the stadium, saying a new team could be created and hosted at the ground for the Premiership.
