Doc Rivers didn't sound too optimistic after the Milwaukee Bucks took on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The head coach found out that his star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, needed to get an MRI done after he left the matchup early without a return.
Rivers made it clear that there won't be any results revealed until Tuesday, at the earliest. His follow-up statement was even more concerning.
“We won’t know anything until tomorrow," Rivers said. "Didn’t look great, I can tell you that.”
Antetokounmpo entered the Monday night matchup against the Cavs on the injury report due to a knee-related issue. The veteran big man checked in for 13 minutes. During the first half, he went back to the locker room to get checked out for a potential groin-related injury.
When the Bucks geared up for the second half, they decided to call it a night for Antetokounmpo. The veteran big man was reportedly dealing with a groin strain.
A solid night was halted for Giannis, who left the court with 6-10 shooting (14 points), four assists, five rebounds, and one steal.
In his absence, the Bucks couldn't take care of business against the Cavs. A 118-106 loss sent the Bucks to 8-7 on the year. Cleveland's Donovan Mitchell had a big night, scoring 37 points on 14-22 shooting. He logged seven assists and five rebounds in 36 minutes of action.
Antetokounmpo has been off to a strong start this season. He missed his first set of action on October 30, before returning to the court for a stretch of six-straight games. He got the night off against the Charlotte Hornets last week, before the Bucks and Hornets met for the NBA Cup group game.
Over the past two games, Giannis logged over 71 minutes. It looks like he could be facing a stretch of absences, depending on the results of the imaging.
Throughout the 12 games leading up to Monday's action, Giannis has been putting together an MVP-worthy stretch. He is averaging 32.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 7.1 assists, while shooting over 60 percent from the field. After Monday's loss, the Bucks dropped to 8-7 on the year. Their next outing will take place on Thursday, November 20, at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.
