Manchester United face off against Everton after the international break. Ruben Amorim's side haven't lost a Premier League match since late September.
Head coach Amorim's days in Manchester seemed numbered to begin with this campaign but a remarkable turnaround sees his team sitting just six points off second place. A host of players are currently away with their respective nations but will return later this week as they prepare to face the Toffees.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes has been starring for Portugal and his country secured 2026 World Cup qualification on Sunday evening with a 9-1 thrashing of Armenia. Fernandes played in an advanced role on the night and sent a message to his club coach with his performance.

In Portugal's 9-1 domination, Fernandes grabbed three goals. Manager Roberto Martinez played Fernandes as an attacking midfielder in a three, with two more defensive players just in behind him.
He has not been playing in such an advanced role under Amorim, instead having to do a bit more defensive work as part of a midfield two, with either Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte beside him.

For his country, Fernandes thrived further up the pitch and while two of his goals did come from the penalty spot, he bagged one from open play and also set up another in what was an accomplished display.
The 31-year-old has done well in a more attacking midfield role for other United coaches but with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo taking up wide positions, Amorim's setup seems not to allow for such a position. Fernandes' display sent a message nevertheless.
Ruben Amorim set for midfield boost
United bolstered their attacking options over the summer with the signings of Mbeumo and Cunha, as well as Benjamin Sesko. Reports now suggest it is their midfield that will receive an overhaul next.
ESPN reports that there are a plethora of midfield talents that the club have their eye on, namely Brighton's Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton and Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller.

In order to afford such new talent, it has been reported that the club will look to offload some of their highest earners. Jadon Sancho is one player mentioned in the report, as well as Marcus Rashford.
The Englishman is currently on loan at Barcelona but his deal at Old Trafford nets him £325,000 per week. Casemiro and Harry Maguire could also depart, unless they agree new terms on dramatically lower wages.
Conor Gallagher addresses transfer rumours
Another name that has been floated as a potential midfield target is former Chelsea star Conor Gallagher. The Englishman moved to Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 and despite a strong start, he's found minutes hard to come by this season.

Back in September, it was reported that United might launch a late loan move for Gallagher before the window closed. This never did materialise. But Gallagher has now addressed his lack of game time and transfer rumours.
He told AS: "I'm not satisfied. I don't think anyone would be if they don't play as much as they would like but I will continue to work very hard to, whenever I have the opportunity, help the team and hopefully more opportunities will come to be a starter."
Gallagher added: "I'm very happy here. My goal is to win titles with Atleti, and I want to have a bigger role in the team. And, as I said, I'm going to continue working to the maximum to play more minutes and be able to help the team."
