Scotland vs Denmark: The lessons Steve Clarke and co must learn if World Cup spot is to be booked.
The latest news stories coming from both Rangers and Celtic during the International break.
A former Rangers and Hearts ace believes his old club have to try and tie down their talisman for another year, while a former Celtic gaffer has been linked with Leeds United after a poor run of results.
Rangers have a number of individuals out of contract in the summer as Danny Rohl has a big decision on his hands regarding who should stay and who should go. John Souttar, James Tavernier, Rabbi Matondo, Kieran Dowell and Liam Kelly are all set to leave the the club in 2026, however former Rangers winger, David Templeton believes his old side should do everything in their power to keep one of them.
On the other side of the city, Celtic are closing in on appointing Columbus Crew boss, Wilfried Nancy as Brendan Rodgers’ permanent replacement. As the Hoops continue the search, Rodgers has been linked with Leeds United, after a huge dip in form for Daniel Farke’s side.
Here’s a look at the latest stories from both Celtic Park and Ibrox:
Rangers need ‘experienced’ customer in the building
Templeton believes that Rangers should try and tie James Tavernier down for at least another year as the captain nears his contract expiration. At the age of 34, the full back is no spring chicken, but still remains one of Rangers’ most consistent performers.
Templeton told the Daily Record: “the club don’t have a lot of players now with experience of being at Rangers. So they need guys like Tav to guide new ones or younger ones. He knows what the club is about so if Rohl is going to bring more in, he can let them know.
“It could also come down to finances. Tav might have to take a cut, so there are loads of factors. But I think he should stay because he’s still performing well and his numbers are good. He’s playing every week and Rohl obviously likes him. He can also play different positions, he can now play in a back three as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if you see more of that.”
Rodgers front runner for Leeds if Farke goes
According to TeamTalk, Daniel Farke’s Leeds United sacking could be imminent and if the German were to leave, Brendan Rodgers would be his most likely successor. In what would be a bizarre chain of events, the former Celtic manager would be working with Paraag Marathe and the 49ers Enterprise at Elland Road if he was to obtain the position.
After getting promoted back to the top-flight last season, there was even talk in the summer that Farke could lose his job due to his poor Premier League record. The United hierarchy ultimately chose to stick with their man, however after just one win in six, perhaps they are starting to regret that decision.
Despite their poor form, Leeds currently sit in 16th position, one point ahead of the relegation zone, however with some difficult post-International break fixtures against Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool on the horizon, things aren’t getting any easier for Farke and co.
