Pedro Neto returned to first-team training at Cobham on Monday, giving Chelsea a big boost. Before Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley, the Portuguese winger was spotted practicing with his teammates. Less than two weeks have passed since he hobbled off during the 3-0 victory over his old team, Wolves, at Stamford Bridge due to a groin issue.
The 25-year-old has emerged as one of Enzo Maresca’s primary offensive outlets and has started every league game this season. His probable availability is a huge boost as a number of important games are approaching, such as Burnley in the league and high-profile matches against Barcelona and Arsenal later in November.
After the win over Wolves, Maresca first explained the problem, emphasizing that the winger had requested to leave the game as soon as he started to feel uneasy. He said at his press conference after the game:
“Pedro had a problem with his groin, and Enzo (Fernandez) had a problem with his knee. So we need to see how they are now.”
Although the team is expected to carefully manage Neto’s minutes in the near future, his early return to group work suggests those worries may be waning. Since joining Chelsea in 2024, the former Wolves forward has been one of their most reliable wide options, contributing both creativity and direct running on either flank.
With Estevao, Alejandro Garnacho, and summer acquisition Jamie Gittens vying for spots in the starting lineup, his presence would present Maresca with a welcome selection dilemma. Ahead of a demanding end to the month, Neto’s involvement would be a rare bit of good news for the Blues, as several senior players are still recovering from injuries.
Chelsea Defender Benoit Badiashile Also Returns to Training
Benoit Badiashile has returned to full training, giving Chelsea an additional boost in fitness. After initially being predicted to miss time until December due to a muscle injury he sustained during the victory over Liverpool, the French defender has returned to work with the first-team squad.
During a period of uncertainty in central defense, Badiashile has given Enzo Maresca another option by stepping up his rehabilitation. He was spotted in sessions at Cobham last week. Despite only making three appearances this season, the 24-year-old has generally performed well when called upon, displaying poise when handling the ball and strength in duels.
His availability could be crucial in terms of rotation and depth, given the Premier League’s and Europe’s upcoming demanding schedules. There seems to be a clear chance for Badiashile to establish himself as a member of Chelsea’s starting lineup if he can now overcome his injury issues and remain healthy.
